CHERYL CHRISTIANSEN & ASSOCIATES:

Our firm is a general law practice based in Engadine, being a suburb of Sydney (NSW) in the Sutherland Shire.  Whilst the bulk of work carried out in this practice is for clients based in the south-eastern area of Sydney, we have several over-seas clients and also act in real estate conveyancing matters where the relevant properties are in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory in addition to those in New South Wales.

The majority of the work conducted by the firm is in the areas of Wills, Probate (deceased estates), Powers of Attorney, Powers of Guardianship and a variety of Family Law and other personal relationship issues.

Cheryl and her highly trained staff, including Paralegal Assistant/Licensed Conveyancer, MelanieMcHugh, provide a friendly and professional service. All advice will be given without complicated legal jargon.

THE CONVEYANCING PROFESSIONALS:

"The Conveyancing Professionals" is a registered trade name of Cheryl Christiansen & Associates.   We are different to most conveyancing businesses in that it we are prepared to provide conveyaning services in all States of Australia, if required, for our NSW clients.  We also have strong connections with highly experienced mortgage brokers, tax agents, accountants and local real estate agents, as well as financial advisors and a well-established buyer's agent who searches Australia-wide to locate the best investment properties at any given time.

Another aspect of THE CONVEYANCING PROFESSIONALS which is different to businesses operated by licenced conveyancers is that we have the advantage of having an experienced solicitor available to prepare or up-date your Wills, Powers of Attorney and Powers of Guardianship at the same time.  Through the general law firm of Cheryl Christiansen & Associates, we can also provide other legal services which may be required in conjunction with your property or investment planning.

OUR PRINCIPAL:

The Principal of CHERYL CHRISTIANSEN & ASSOCIATES and THE CONVEYANCING PROFESSIONALS, Cheryl Christiansen, has been involved in the law industry for over 30 years and has been based in the Sutherland and St George districts for most of that time.  She has also worked as a paralegal and/or practised as a solicitor in the Sydney CBD, on the Central Coast, and in the Central West & Illawarra regions of NSW.

Cheryl began her career as a conveyancing paralegal and has handled mortgage work for several banks. She has also worked for real estate agents and has provided bookkeeping and general office assistance to several local real estate agents when operating her own business during the late 1980’s.

Later, she commenced her law studies with the Solicitors’ & Barristers’ Admission Board (which became the Legal Practitioner's Admission Board) and was admitted to practise as a Solicitor and Barrister in 1996. After being employed as a solicitor for approximately 6 years, she then opened her own practice in Engadine in January, 2002, then called CHERYL CHRISTIANSEN- MOBILE LAWYER.

Cheryl has presented public seminars on Elder Law issues at Engadine Library and John Paul Retirement Village on behalf of the Law Society of NSW and, as a consequence, has been invited and has given informational talks to numerous other local groups.  She has recently assisted the local branch of a large mortgage company by speaking at their seminars tailored for First Home Buyers.

She has also had a broad range of experience in Family Law matters.  One matter of particular interest involved a case of international child abduction under the Hague Convention which set a number of precedents in the Family Court and in Constitutional Law.  That matter took Cheryl to several convenings of an extaordinary full Family Court of 5 judges and to the High Court twice.

The second visit to the High Court was to a full bench of 7 judges.  As that component of the case involved Constitutional issues relating to the powers of the Family Court and all superior courts generally, the Attorneys-General for all States and Territories as well as the Federal Attorney-General intervened.  It was quite an experience for any lawyer and Cheryl was privileged to have been working with the former Solicitor-General for Australia and a prominent Human Rights barrister in the matter.

In 2006, Cheryl established THE CONVEYANCING PROFESSIONALS which operates in conjunction with her general law practice.

She is a Member of the Law Society of NSW, the Endeavour Branch of BNI and was a former Vice President of the Engadine Chamber of Commerce.

Although born in Wollongong, Cheryl spent most of her childhood and school days in Caringbah.  She moved to other regions of the State in early adulthood and settled in Engadine in the mid-1980's to raise her family. She is still enjoying life in The Shire.

As a regular sporting interest, Cheryl enjoys sailing (racing and cruising), is a full member of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia and a national member of Yachting Australia.

Motorcycling and flying/aerobatics are other interests.  She is a member of the Rider Association of Triumph, the Ulysses Club and holds a student pilot licence.
